Oak Konan Shinagawa Office

Oak Konan Shinagawa

Oak Konan Shinagawa is a 12-story office building located near the harbor in Tokyo, Japan. The white lattice-like exterior frame is an outer shell made of precast concrete that serves as both structural frame and sun-shading device. Combined with the steel construction of the core, this hybrid structure creates a column-free office space that allows flexible layouts. The precast columns and beams are produced off-site and lowered into place from above, which simplifies work on site. The exterior windows include natural ventilation units that open with a detachable handle.

Flying Exhibition Center

Flying

Fly is an urban art experience center located in Jiangyin, China, on the edge of the Yangtze River. The building is arranged around a landscape pool that brings river water into the setting. Cantilevered structures are used, so no column grid is visible from the outside. Two large blocks resemble a pair of wings above the water. The exterior is made of white and gray aluminum panels with beige marble. Turning and interwoven volumes soften the boundary between inner and outer space. A quiet path crosses the water and links the display areas. The center covers 21527 square feet.

Faculty Architecture of Kigali Education School

Faculty Architecture of Kigali

Faculty Architecture is a school of architecture in Kigali, Rwanda, planned for 600 students on a site of 5,600 square metres. The design starts from a simple volume on two levels. The volume is pulled apart on opposite sides, which creates a central gap that forms an outdoor space for students. Stone is used for the exterior envelope and self-coloured concrete for the interior. Small windows face outward, while large inward-facing windows are shaded by roof overhangs. Truncated upper sections bring in daylight and improve ventilation.

Starry Town Public Space

Starry Town

Starry Town of Fuxian Lake is a visitor center and public space built on the bank of Fuxian Lake. The building is shaped like a white leaf resting quietly beside the water. Each leaf roof covers about 1200 square meters and provides the shading required by the local climate. Two flowing white walls of aluminum plates connect the spaces, together with a curved ribbon bridge that extends 145 meters. The canopy over the entrance is formed from triangular mirror-finished stainless steel panels. Wide glazing on the ground floor keeps the lake visible from the site.

Nankai LiangJiang Secondary School

Nankai LiangJiang

Nankai LiangJiang is a secondary school built in Chongqing, China. The main building is a circular structure measuring 200 meters in diameter and is made with a pre-fabricated steel structure. Classrooms, offices, a library, a science hall, a theatre and a school museum are arranged within. Perforated aluminum panels reduce glare, and a parametric steel lattice forms an undulating roof that moderates sunlight and rain.
