The Box Architecture

The Box

The Box is a four-story house built on a small site in a rural setting. The white facade is composed of solid and recessed squares that form a simple geometric volume. Mineral paint is used as the facade finish, as it is durable, easy to clean and reflects heat radiation. The kitchen and dining area face a double-height space, so cooking sounds and smells reach the floor above and bring the family together. A composite west wall and a vertical ventilation shaft reduce solar heat and move air through the interior. Staggered floor slabs frame views of the landscape.

Design of Complementary Building Sales Centre

Design of Complementary Building

Design of Complementary Building is a facade renovation of a sales centre at the main entrance of the Qin Lake Scenic Area in Taizhou, China. A large canopy marks the entrance and completes the curtain wall. The east facade uses a perforated aluminium curtain wall to enrich light and shadow. The renovation adapts the building for new use as an exhibition hall.

House in Toyonaka Architecture

House in Toyonaka

House in Toyonaka is a private residence in a dense residential district in northern Osaka, Japan. The site is surrounded by closely packed houses and has no distant views, so privacy was the main concern. The house therefore avoids large windows and stays closed to the street. A glass floor, split-level floors and skylights let the line of sight pass slightly through each part of the interior, reducing the sense of enclosure. The limited daylight also makes the passing of time clearly perceived. The total floor area is 107.62 square meters.

House for Parents Residence

House for Parents

House for Parents is a residence on Amami-Oshima Island, an area with a severe subtropical climate and frequent typhoons. A large rectangular roof is supported by a steel framework structure with a four meter span. The roof creates a cool and shaded interior, similar to the space under large trees. The concrete walls stand independently from the roof structure, so the floor plan is free from restrictions caused by columns. Projecting concrete walls extend the common areas outward toward the surrounding island landscape.

The Big Roof Fire Station

The Big Roof

The Big Roof is a fire station in Keelung, Taiwan, a mountainous and rainy city. The design adapts the local mountain house style, so the building reads as a landmark and still blends into the terrain. A large sloping roof forms a new layer over the mountain surface. Balconies and openings create sheltered spaces between the landscape and the building. These spaces add depth, reduce direct sunlight in summer and allow natural ventilation. A scenic path beside the fire station leads to the park and the surrounding landscape.

Panorama Villa Residence

Panorama Villa

Alluding to the structure of a typical Mani village, the concept is conceived as a series of individual stone fragments revolving around the atrium, entrance and living spaces. The Wine Hub Residence and Restaurant

The Wine Hub

The Wine Hub is a village building that combines a residence and a restaurant. The design aims to create a gathering place and to renew interaction among neighbours. Horizontal fins, inspired by traditional wine rack storage, shape the facade. The fins come in six different sizes, creating varied density that filters wind and sunlight and gives each interior function a different level of privacy. Glass panels on the ground floor can be opened, so the boundary between inside and outside is softened and the surrounding nature is brought into the interior.
