House On Pipes Weekend Getaway

House On Pipes

A grid of slender steel pipes laid out in a staggered manner minimise the building footprint while providing the rigidity and stability to hoist the living space above this. In keeping with the minimalist icon approach, this farmhouse has been designed within the framework of the existing trees to reduce the internal heat gain. Dan Mo Residence

Dan Mo

Dan Mo is a retirement residence completed in February 2020 in Taichung, covering 440 square meters. The lotus flower inspired the design, and the architectural elements portray the parallel pattern seen on lotus petals. Mortar is applied to the surfaces with a special technique that makes the material tougher, denser and resistant to wind and rain. Apart from external tile cladding used to channel water, no further surface treatment is applied, which reduces material consumption. A circular path on the first floor links the function spaces and supports family interaction.

A covered bridge finished in metal panels contrasts with the garden and forms a visual center. About 1000 aluminum plates of different sizes were joined to shape the thin spiral.
