Ripple House

Ripple House is a sculptural masterpiece that transforms space into a living artwork while overcoming the challenge of limited natural light common in attached dwellings. A custom designed screen by the architect, Sam Alawie, casts shifting light patterns, mimicking the fluid dance of water droplets as sunlight moves throughout the day. A central double height void floods the home with natural light, creating openness and connection between levels. More than a residence, Ripple House is an immersive experience where architecture, light, and nature harmonize in ever evolving experience.

This residence applies interlocking volumetric design to create a dynamic living space tailored to multi generational needs. Inspired by natural rhythms, the project uses layered volumes oriented to optimize light, functionality, and privacy. It addresses the challenges of steep terrain and regulatory constraints with a thoughtful arrangement of adaptable spaces, balancing communal and individual needs while supporting modern living demands such as remote work and flexibility.

Frames

This building is characterized by its distinctive window frame design, featuring a well balanced exterior with a floating upper window frame and a horizontal canopy on the first floor. The thoughtful placement of plants is a key design element, effectively dispersing the gaze of passersby and enhancing the sense of openness within the office space. As a wooden structure, it demonstrates a commitment to low-carbon construction, and the seismic design, based on structural analysis, ensures both an open aesthetic and safety. These factors were all comprehensively evaluated.

Spanning 6,500 square meters and constructed with a budget of 30 million USD, the gym features raw concrete and black steel, embodying strength and resilience. This unique design fosters an environment conducive to intense workouts, appealing to fitness enthusiasts. Beyond its extensive workout areas, Oxygen Gym offers a comprehensive suite of amenities, including a restaurant, shops, spa, pool, garden, lockers, and changing rooms, enhancing the overall experience.

The facility, designed beyond its vocation as an urban hub, acts as an operator that brings people together and connects them; it reduces mobility time, which increases the reliability of the transportation system. Its naturally lit central module makes the space more welcoming and facilitates decision making about routes. The glass facade reflects the surroundings, creating a dynamic fusion of movements, shapes and colors that enrich the internal experience. As a climate strategy, roof mounted cross ventilation was adopted, inspired by the rich Amazonian architecture.
