The Farmhouse is an example of the transformation of a typical rural homestead into a residential mansion. In the place of five existing farm buildings scheduled for demolition, the project team proposed five contemporary farm buildings. The newly designed forms have a shape, which results from the reference to the existing farm layout, terrain, view axes, functional needs, division into residential zones and location of trees.
Continue readingUsed a solid and simple form to make a powerful and safe feeling. The primary goal was to create harmony with the surrounding by extending the sloping roof to the ground. Thus, the futuristic and modern form was born during this process. Contrary to a solid and cold exterior, the interior has fluid shapes, warm colors, and unique floor materials to make a cozy feel. Also, the low level conventional area brings down the viewer's eye level and presents different points of view.
Continue readingThis building is a three-story wooden structure in a densely built up area of Tokyo. Although the site is small and the distance from the neighboring land is only about 1m, light and privacy were required. Inspired by the traditional Japanese shoji which softens the light, the designer have created a modern light filter that is resistant to wind and rain and can also be used outside. The translucent cladding on facade softens the light from outside and blurs the visibility of both passerby's and inhabitants. At night, the lighted facade become a large light to illuminate the streets.
Continue readingCasa Acqua was designed in the same way as the first Roman dwellings. Those discovered under the petrified lavas of the Vesuvius volcano that had an O-shaped floor plan and an inner courtyard; balconies around the rooms that allowed the visual integration of spaces. This typology was exploded and adapted to current times and, above all, rethought for this real moment of pandemic, for the Casa Acqua project in Brazil. The project has four modules with an internal patio. This individualized implantation, surrounded by water mirrors, elements of aesthetic interest, brings privacy and comfort.
Continue readingThis project is a retirement residence owned by a retiree who has been retired from a complex business environment but still remains with a pure living mindset. The designer chooses the lotus which symbolizes purity as it is out of the silt but not imbrued to reflect the life outlook of the residence owner while deploying architectural elements to portray the overlapping petals of lotus and the parallel pattern on the petals. On top of that, the matt-finished concrete grey symbolizing a sense of serenity also a humble life.
Continue readingThe Pugong Mountain Geological Museum integrates the old and new gypsum kilns, and uses the old kiln group as the landmark gate of the overall site park. The kiln head is transformed into a viewing platform, and one of the old kilns is used as the main entrance of the museum. Key mining areas are set as ecological education points, and viewing windows and viewing platforms are set up at the corresponding positions of the museum building, so that the museum building is tightly anchored in this special place.
